what's up youtube it's patrick with nolan c 3d print work and this is episode 13 of the large-format 3d printer build as mentioned in my episode preview i've done some work on the x and the y axis mounts along with assembling the bed frame in episode 12 i found a nasty bit of play in the linear rods of both x and y and at first it seemed like
a showstopper and a number you guys even mentioned in the comments that i should fix it using guides in linear rails looking back it would have been better to build this project with them but at the time i was much more inexperienced and now the lack of budget just makes it out of the question the good news is my fix appears to have done the job the
most obvious cause of the rod play was just how little the linear rods fit into the brackets and you can see in this bracket photo there's very little of the rod actually supported by it it's the same problem for all the bracket the fix as well is the same for all brackets and by extending where the linear rods go into the brackets they better support
the rods it took some time to remove all the old pieces and install the new ones although it doesn't remove all the play it does reduce it significantly once the new brackets were installed it was time to work on the aluminum bed frame and although the plant print area is only 36 inches by 36 inches i set the frame up
at 42 inches by 42 and mocked up the basic shape then i made some marks to notch sections in the aluminum tube doing so will allow the tubes to overlap each other and using my dremel i cut out those notches in the center crossbeam filed and clean the areas using some aluminum from harbor freight and my plumbers torch with some map gas i
started welding the frame together it takes about three to five minutes to get the aluminum to the right temperature for the illuma well to melt which is 700 degrees however once you're there the aluminum weld flows freely after welding all the sides i let the weld cool and test fit in the frame and of course with the new fixes and the new frame of new
problems but that's a topic for the next episode remember if you liked this video give it a thumbs up or thumbs down it's your choice and if you'd like to see
