whats up youtube it's patrick with nolan c 3d print works and we're back to the large-format 3d printer well sort of stay tuned it's been awhile since we looked at the
large format 3d printing service, large format printer this project was on the back burner while we worked on et at the tail-end apart for this series i was intending to do the installs of the z
motor mounts show modeling of the xy mounts as well as test fit them on the frame i still intend to do a good part of this but i really needed to refigure eyes myself with the project in general so bear with me for a moment while i do a short recap my entire goal for this printer is to own something that print a
minimal build area of 36 x 36 x 36 inches which is 914 millimeters in each direction the printers frame measures in at 48 inches in all directions as for the materials and tools they should come from a local home supply store or be second hand for the bed i was hoping to do aluminum sheet so that heating would be possible but she prices are a bit
high for the budget what really oh there's no budget for this project i'm gonna need a moment another option is an aluminum truck box cut up and then aluminum welded into the right size aluminum welding is a skill i don't have but david over at make something has a great video on what i believe is a better term braising
aluminum with a small torch so that's a possibility another option is a secondhand coffee table i saw one used by a member on the 3d printing facebook group if you're not a member yet i suggest you go over there enjoying and check out the great things happening in there honestly i would prefer the aluminum or
polycarbonate sheet if the printer is ever moved playing with a large sheet of glass just seems like an unnecessary risk until i can get ahold of that glass table or the polycarbonate or the aluminum i'm going to move the project forward just by using a small section of plywood this will at least keep the project moving forward as for the
electronics the printer will be run by ramps in our dream no setup i'll use an lcd screen all of which will be powered by a mini atx power supply this like most other items on the printer needs to be removable to make travel possible i'll either by the box kit that's made over by maker geeks.com or design my own i have some nema 17 motors and for the
hot end i'm going to run with annie 3d volcano or similar right now i'm still focused on using 1.75 millimeter filament but the three millimeter keeps tugging at the back of my mind now let's get to the modeling of the x&y carriages i took the original models and brought them internet fad and from there i cut them into three pieces and then took
these files into one to 3d and use my extruder carriage for a reference to space out the pieces and then fill in the blank here the end results i did post a pic of these up on instagram earlier and here it is in a rough set up with some bearings and rods well that about does it for this video in the next video some actual assembly
should be happening this project has a long ways to go but we'll get there if you liked the video give it a thumbs up or thumbs down it's your choice and if you want to see more
