so i decided to construct my own compressedair gun using off the shelf parts at my local hardware store. i wanted a more compact designand wanted it to have more penetration power. it took nearly two weeks of designing andtinkering before i had settled on a design. i coated the pipes with duct tape and coatedthe rest of it with truck bed liner to give it a nice rugged appearance.
can you print a gun with a 3d printer, so just to give you an overview. this is thevalve where you connect to the air compressor to fill it up. all of this section is juststorage for the compressed air. this is a water-sprinkler valve which is connected tomy trigger mechanism here. i decided to make 3 different sized barrelsfor it that can screw on and off. the large
one here is the 1" barrel. this one is thethree-quarter inch barrel, followed by the half-in barrel. having different barrel sizesgives me the most versatility of different projectiles i can fire from it. i designedin a barrier at the back of each barrel to make sure the projectile doesn't accidentallyget lodged in the firing mechanism. i took another trip to the hardware storeto get some ideas for different projectiles to use. i took little sample pieces f thebarrel so i could check the fit of different objects. i saw these steel rods here wouldfit and could be cut up into smaller projectiles. these giant bolts would work also. of coursesmaller bolts would work too if you wanted to cut the heads off. hmmm.. here's an idea.hm.. i bet these would work too.
sure enough i found that a double-a batterywould fit the half-inch barrel with a little duct tape wrapped around it. a c-cell batterywill fit in the 1" barrel with a little duct tape around it. if you want something a bitheavier out of household items, i found you could roll up some pennies in some duct tapeand they work really well. the pennies allow you to easily decide how long and heavy youwant your projectile to be without any need to cut anything. so here's what i have forthe half-inch barrel. a solid piece of steel bar. a pointed solid steel bar. and a double-abattery. for the three-quarter inch i have the original co2 cartridge we used in thelast video. another solid piece of steel, a bullet shaped piece of solid steel, anda roll of pennies. for the one inch barrel,
i have two solid steel cylinders, and a thirdone with a pointed end, and of course the c-cell battery. so now its time to charge this thing up. letme point out that my air compressor only goes to 100 psi. this gun should be able to handleup to 160 psi. i decided to go straight to the spam. keepin mind that the most penetration i've ever gotten out of any air gun i've tested was3 cans of spam, and a real gun shooting a 22 long-rifle only managed a score of 6.9.i would be using the half-inch solid steel projectile. well, lets see how far it went.i found the projectile embedded into the 5th can. so here's the first can. here's the secondcan. here's the third. and the fourth. and
here's the 5th can. so i decided to try out this old cd player.i'll be using the same half-inch projectile. it is pretty much obliterated. it took a whileto pickup all of the pieces. next i thought i'd try an empty deodorantcan. i've never been able to penetrate one of these with an air gun before due to theshape and the thick metal. i tried the double-a battery for this test. it dented the can andknocked it clear across the yard. but did not penetrate. so i thought i'd try it againwith the solid metal projectile. it went straight through with no problems. i wanted to try one more thing with the half-inchbarrel. what if i could make it work like
a shotgun. so here's what i did. i rolledup a paper towel and crammed it into the barrel. then i used this funnel and filled it withabout 30 regular bbs. then i followed it up with another paper towel and used a pieceof electrical wire to push it all the way down the barrel. next it was time to try iton these 3 soda cans. looking at this one you can definitely see several holes in it.the second one seems to have only one hole. the 3rd can has several holes. so the shotgunwas definitely a success. i decided to move to the 1 inch barrel forthe jug of water. i hoped it would make a bigger splash. you can see it made almosta perfect 1 inch hole, as well as several split areas as the water was in a hurry toexit this container. and of course here's
the exit hole. i wanted to do one more interesting experiment.i wanted to see it inflate a garbage bag just so i could visually see how much air is releasedwhen pulling the trigger. so i dry fired it with no projectile. unfortunately, the blastof air was still so strong it put a hole right through the bag before it ever got a chanceto inflate! ok, so for all you people that are paranoidabout these 3d printed guns, saying "oh gosh! people can build their own guns at home, whatevershall we do?" well, let me tell you what. this was all made at home out of regular stufffrom the hardware store that required no background check and it is just as deadly and lethalas any gun you can buy at a gunstore. uh,
keep in mind this is only operating at 62%of its total power because i don't have an air compressor that can pump it up to 160.so no telling what i could do with it at 160 psi. um. so. this thing is ridiculously dangerous.uh, you know. i'd like to point out if you're thinking about building something like this, just understand you could probably kill yourself, no you can kill yourself with it if you'renot careful. every test i did was under extremely controlled circumstances. i had taken everyprecaution. i had safety equipment. i had checked, you know, every possible path forwhere my projectile might end up after shooting something. uh. keep in mind this has no safetymechanism on it. so you could be carrying it around, hit the trigger, and you couldshoot yourself with it or somebody else, so
you have to be really careful with it. um,so. i would just like to point that out to anybody thinking about building one, but thepoint is if you're responsible, you can build something like this and enjoy it under theright circumstances and it is definitely as powerful as a real gun and i would say youcould blow a hole right through somebody or potentially a large animal using somethinglike this. oh and sorry i didn't get to try
out all those different projectiles that ihad, uh, the video would have just been too long and i ran out of stuff to blow up. soi'll save some of those for some other video down the road. in the meantime, leave me somecomments and tell me what you think, and tell me what you'd like to see in the next video, and uh, till next time.
