we were aiming to improve onan already very well-refined car. to get the holistic weight saving, we nearly always have to design andmanufacture those parts ourselves. that's where the 3d printerreally came in. as technology is developed,


3d printing oil and gas, as the quality develops, it becomesa much more viable technology for small volume manufacture. and, as that technology continuesto develop,


and the cost of it comes down, for mass productionit will become more and more viable. it doesn't need to be a complex part. it can be a part that's been madea certain way for hundreds and thousands of years,like a cup. we can very quickly and very easilychange any feature on here. if this handle is no longerfit for function and i want a bigger handle, or i want a different shape handle,


i can change that within 20 minuteson the computer and then, within a few hours,have another cup. 3d printing was a key aspect in the manufacture of this vehicle. we can produce partsthroughout the interior, or throughout the exterior, to provide both functionsand also aesthetics. we would have beena lot more constrained from a design point of view,


and it would have ultimately affectedthe final design. the materials that are availableto us to 3d print are constantly evolvingand constantly improving.

as time goes on, we will ultimatelybe able to print an entire car with a 3d printer. we need to make the best useof the technology that we have at our fingertips.
