[music][machine working] my name is mike holt. i am a reference librarian at valdosta state university. i have been here for 3 years. the library has two makerbot replicator 3d printers. they were purchased in january 2012. since then, uh what we'vebeen doing with them has been pretty wide and varied. a lot of different departmentshave been using them for stuff that i never
3d printing companies in minnesota, even would have thought of. the art department has been using them for making sculptures. we had the physics department come in andcreate a 3d mesh for some fluid dynamics testing. we've had the chemistry department comein and make prototypes for underwater testing equipment. we've had, you know, requestsfrom the math department for printing out
3d solids they make in a program called "mathmatica" to help students, you know, better realize what these functions mean. if students areinterested in 3d printing, they have to take a training workshop. it typically lasts aboutan hour. if you want to create your own 3d model, there is software out there that existsfor you to do so. things like "blender", "auto cad", even "light wave" cancreate 3d models. if 3d modeling isn't your thing and you're not an experienced 3d designer, there's always, uh, you know, libraries
of 3d models out there. maker bot who makes our 3d printer has a one called "thing-a-verse". i believe that "auto cad" has their own3d library with some designs available for free download that you can grab online. so,no matter where you are in your ability to
design things, you can get stuff out thereand start 3d printing.
