hey cosplayers i'm skyler ostler and in today's apprenticeship i'll be teaching you how to make iron fist mask and it's going to look legit stay tuned
3d printed iron man mask, all right before we get started when i just think a couple people big shout-out to we love colors for providing the yellow spandex for us to make this video
possible also ronnie from ronnie street stunts and his awesome following for making coming up with the idea to do this iron fist mask super excited to have him he's going to be helping me throughout this build and make sure to check out his channel and he's going to be doing an awesome parkour video with iron fist
so check that out alright let's jump into the bill ok so as you can see and making the iron fist mass we're going to start off by saran-wrapping ronnie's head here to make sure that we can get that we're going to tape off just like we did on the wonder woman costume to create the pattern tape off
howie the shape that we want it then we can take it off cut it and then create a pattern based on that and so we're going to be able to get the exact form of his face and get it all perfect and amazing and it's looking so here's remember ronny from the deadpool video game pasta that you rocked it yet check out his channel ronnie streets tense
yeah and let's get going on this bill so we cut the shape of the the mask all taped up we overlapped a little bit in some areas but we're going to just go half of it here going to draw down the center line and then draw across here at the shape that we wanted to take going towards the back and that will probably cut off the softshell right here but
yeah anyway so we once you get it all taped up you can draw it on to the shapely one and then take it off cut that out and then you'll be able to create for patterns terrible jump that soon we pulled it off of his face and beforehand we drew on the lines that we wanted to kind of follow the centerline there and then
around the side bring it up just by his ear so you can stellar that definitely has like the iron fist look to it it's got the eyes and the brow that's pretty well-defined we can exaggerate that too with the foam but yeah looking good on to the next step cutting this out making the pattern we're doing now is we've got that cut out to our final shape now i'm
drawing in what we basically need to do is turn this into a 2d shape that we can then transfer onto this foam and then reassemble it become like a 3d shape basically and so what i'm doing is i'm figuring out where i would need to cut to be able to have that open up and then lay flat there's usually called arts and sewing and different things like that
and pattern-making l-like so if i cut along here that's going to be just underneath the brow and our hopes our will be able to hide it right way and then allowed to be able to open up and then we'll see what we can do to get this flat here as well we may need another dart letting this because of the curve in it just depends on how
flat you get one one thing you need to make sure that you use when you are doing a dark need to have registration so now we draw this line going to create registration marks across here along the seam and once we cut that that will tell us where this lines up so that we don't get it misaligned and have it be off ok so we took another dark right here to
be able to get this curve and as you can see now it lays flat out there still a little bit of curve happening here and here so we can add that in with the heat gun and kind of been that into the phone a little bit so we added that dart there one thing you want to do now we're going to transfer it to paper to do that you're going to want to just cut up from
either side of these little registration marks gonna cut little triangles that way you can transfer your registration marks onto the paper as well got the head and cut out about all the registration marks cut out here so you can see how that transfers onto the paper will cut out a piece of paper do the same thing where we cut out these
little diagonals so we transferred onto the foam it will will be able to for our registration marks then right in line with our supposed to be basically just trace that onto the foam here we're gonna cut that out and then we'll use the heat gun to try to add in some of the shape make putting this together a little bit easier and then
pull off the glue and give it a test fit together alright so as you can see here when i transferred it over gotta cut out i marked the registration marks but we don't cut them out like we did on the template pattern pieces because now they're just going to be to allow us to line these edges up as you can see it
when applying those at the free our curve naturally into the phone so we're going to do is to help it out going to speed it up and push in a little bit of a curve into the pump to help it kind of already naturally curve so we don't have it sure alright so they had that curving just
going to gently rub my finger along here slightly pulling gently and destruction and shutting that bourbon starts to kinda ok actually curve itself together for seem to the only line that up already got a little bit of that curve built into it so that it can hold its shape almost on
its own so yeah i'm not gonna heat this up this was going to be a little bit more intense because if you look at these registration marks we have to line these up and they create a lot more of an intense divot to be able to create that and drop into the i so i'll go ahead and do that and then we can cut to that all right now we're using contact
cement that contact world would contact sign so it's kind of sticky make sure that you wear masks and do it in a well-ventilated area i'm just going to put a little bit along each edge of your seam here and then you let it sit for about 10 minutes and then it will be ready to go and you can just push these two pieces
together will show you that in a second and i'll just stick on contact that's why it's called context alright so you can tell it's dry enough when it's just a little bit tacky but it doesn't come off on your finger you can see here where it's not dry yet if i put my finger on it kind of tries to come off on my finger right here just tacky
so then you want to make sure that you go it sticks on contact so make sure you line up these registration marks as you this is the tricky part ok once you got that you want to make sure you get all of those that is sticking there so it helps to kind of actually flip it
inside out that helps get the other edge to kind of stick down to itself because you can see this bottom side got it nice and clean flip it around and set out a little bit there really get that other edge and just like that you've got your curve it's starting to happen on the master and then we'll move on to this month
all right so it looks like he's crying because i accidentally called a little bit too hard on the phone and ripped it right here had to do that back together but basically you can see how we kind of formed that brow with this dark here once we got a glutton so now we're gonna do is we're going to eat it all up and actually put it on ronnie's face and
that will allow us to be able to actually get like the legitimate shape and maybe a little bit more curve just into the foam that we wouldn't have couldn't have gotten just from the darts and that kind of thing so that's the next step will show you what that looks like after we've done that we have you know the shape the curveball put in
there you can heat it up and then like pressing even more of a defined like brow and nose and different things like that which will do a little bit more once we get the other half in there too but for now i feel like this is looking pretty good we'll go ahead and move forward to the other half and then put it together okay
so we've got our two halfs gonna go and already glued the two edges together just like we've done the other seems now i'm going to press it together very carefully and don't do what i did make sure that when you start off on this you your registration marks along the middle seem to when you first put your pattern i forgot to do that and so we're gonna
have to play it by just eyeballing on this so we'll see how it goes alright so next up on the iron fist mask we've got our yellow spandex here and we've got the mask for marking out the eyes good old silver gel pen takes us back to junior high school but it works really
well for showing up on the phone here we just marked out of box where the inside and outside of ronnie's i was in the top and bottom to kind of give ourselves an idea where we need to draw within and then we just tried to draw the eye to match the comic book characters this weekend we're going to cut that out see if it works it will be able to see and
do parkour in that or not and move forward from there alright so make sure for this that your blades nice and sharp then we're going to go ahead and cut out so took us a couple of tries to get the right line here we're looking right here so just nice and easy and just if you're unsure err on the
side of going smaller and then you can always cut out more if it's not how you want it to be it's here we go let's do a test fit alright so we're getting ready to put the yellow spandex onto the mask using the spray adhesive couple of things here what we're using to be able to do this
we've got the three m77 super 77 it's for oil foam paper metal plastic fabric cetera so it's got two things that we need on there and this spandex is from we love colors and they said to us to be able to do this project and we're super excited about that they have a halloween contest going on as well as some different things have a link to their
website below and the spandex is amazing and it's a been working out great super excited to see the finished product with this but make sure to check them out they're really cool have a lot of different things fabric a new line of fabric and as well as you know other things leggings whatever else so check them out we love
colors on the link below ok so quick note don't put the adhesive on both sides on the phone on the spandex because the spandex sticks to itself and becomes a big mess to deal with so luckily we have plenty of spandex and were the ones working with the problems so that you don't have to run into the
same issues so now that we're just recoat this with the super 77 adhesive and go with nothing sprayed on the spandex from here up down is is clear of us the spray we just about there so then we'll do that again same thing but now this time only the adhesive on the fun so we'll cut to that once you've got so here we go you can kind of see we've
got our masks protruding out of the spandex is looking really cool with enough stretch we could probably get doing this in the right way we could stretch it and get that to probably go flat but we wanted to keep some of this kind of pulled look for once we wrap it around the back of the head to make it look like some of that polling comes up
all the way to the front mike what it would do more if you're wrapping it around your head because we're trying to get that look of this is a bandana being pulled around his face and this is actually what his face looks like underneath rather than this is a mask that's not like with a real person underneath the kind of thing or that
doesn't actually pull tight on the back so you'll see once we get this on this will look a lot more natural once it's being pulled tight around his head so we're gonna cut it along just a straight line across here on the bottom it will loop this piece down underneath the mask and then we'll also figure out how far back we need to go cut it there
and then we'll be able to have the ties that come out and tire on the back it's going to give a yeah that's sweet ok so we're about to cut out the eyes we've got the mask all on there tied back it's looking great and going to go from the corner to the corner i don't know if you can see with the
light there where that is gonna wear the high is underneath can definitely see it here so we're going to go from corner to corner with a slit and then corner to corner with the other slip should let us yes you may want to put a little bit more adhesive i don't know if you want to spray adhesive because it could get all over on the inside but maybe a
little bit of super glue glue whatever your preference of glue is just dab it along the inside here and fold those seams back into reveal your i so blah alright so we got the ice cut out they look awesome show the profile here yeah it's really nice he's got good visibility be able to do parkour everything but they still look small
enough like the comic book character and so now we're going to put a white mesh behind there so we can still see out and that is back here so we're gonna be putting just a white mesh backing on there so you can see here it's a the same stuff they put on like bus windows and things like that print cool things on but those little
holes you can see through on the mask but it'll still from a distance give that white eyed look of the actual comic book character ok so what we're going to do is we have to have a clear base to be able to stick the white mesh on to you and so i've got this it's one of those plastic things that come with like when you buy a shirt
that kind of sit inside the box or this one's a little bit thicker you can also use stuff like what you get and like spinach containers the plastic spinach been type of things a lot of times the lid or the sides depending on what kind you get we'll have enough to be able to cut out like an eye lens just from those that's
a little bit thinner but this is what i have here saving it for a special occasion and this is it so i'm going to use the cutouts that we did out of the foam for the eyes and just kind of trace around that but give it about like a quarter inch or so gap around so that you can have some room to be able to stick it on to the inside of the mask
here with the eyes they're so we're going to do that and come back to it so once you've cut out your lens piece there so that it fits you know it's got a quarter inch all the way around for the eyepiece then you want to gently heated up with your heat gun and then you can shape it you can see this has some shape to it so that it fits the
shape of the the mask in ronnie's face here and then what you want to do is make sure you use like to use your piece face it out make sure to try to eliminate any wasted space as possible trace it out on your white backing here and then cut that white backing out with its and with its and keep backing still on there and then
we'll be able to peel that off just like a sticker and then place it onto our shaped piece and you want to put it on the outside of the lens ok so just pull the way backing off now i cleaned off the front of the lens here so once this goes on that side screen and just be careful not to touch the middle of the lens is up in the best you
can and i might actually be easier to put this back in this on before shape it a little still moving tickets shape with the lens there we go looks like i have a little bit of excess that can trim off here but yeah so then that will fit just inside of there is the flight
still be able to see and the outside inside damn alright so we've got the white part of the eye here going looking really cool i want to get the black in there that'll make that pop even more then on the other side here you can see basically just took the piece of plastic i traced around where we're going to be
sitting and then put the some contact cement just a really thin layer all along that foam on the inside of that line and then just a little tiny bit on the outside edge of this lens and stuck it on there tight now we just got to the other eye and then we'll be able to move on to supply its final finishing touches right so we've got the white of the eyes
in and it's looking pretty cool once we get that black and i think will really start to see iron fist really come to life here but yeah it's looking pretty awesome so far so let's continue will jump into getting the black so working on getting the black thing we're going to do like a black vinyl faux leather for the black portion and adhere that to
it so we took some paper and we're just kind of drew out the shape of the black that we want to have it follow just to be able to test it make sure that looks good we'll use this as a pattern to cut out the fabric to fit in this place so we will move on from an ok so we took our little template piece trace it onto the back of this
from leather and now we're just gonna cut it out and see what its gonna be the black on and it looks yep just a little example about how awesome it is alright so now maybe the sociable we have to make it very so that looks like a real superhero has been wearing
it because they don't stay clean and pretty they get down and dirty saving people so videos in some cocoa powder her she also a little bit of cornstarch and just got a little bit of a some white chalky powder from him punching through cinder block and stuff and then you just kind of get a little bit on your fingers
don't go directly onto it because that's gonna be crazy band row fingers try to get it off of your fingers and then come in and you realize no hands are dirty and i'm getting dirt all over this but now it's not coming off now i'm just getting more dirt on it that's just kind of how you do it all the way through and just kind of rub your hands in between
your hands do whatever you want to get look nice very ornament you're already also used to give a little bit more definition to the nose come to find that brown well and more spots going to do that have some fun thank you
dirty make it look nice okay so now we've added a little bit of some dirtiness to the mask make it look like it's been a little bit more or less here just dirt and then you can tell from like further away it just kinda had some more definition to the brown to the nose anyway so yeah i was just cocoa powder
alright so there you have it that's a iron fist mask i hope you guys enjoyed this video make sure to check out some more of my videos i have also have one woman and hawkgirl coming up soon as well as lots of other star wars marvel deadpool etc so check out the rest of my videos also check out running street sense channel big thanks to him for
