hey there! mega here. trianglelab had sent me these boards. they claimed that these boards can actuallymake your prints look better if you are running the 8825 stepper drivers i will be investigating the claims so let's get started! okay, there was a guy that first discoveredthe missing steps issues with the 8825 stepperdrivers


he wrote about it in his blog post link at descriptions below so... right now we are going to test the... problem he discovered or... i should say demostrate so... forgive me for the messy setup so basically i had hooked up three steppermotors onto my mks sbase controller board


that are running the 8825 stepper drivers okay... this is the octoprint interface that i had programmed a small script to drive the three steppermotors synchronously so you will see the jerk problem that the guy discovered okay... as you can see the zipties amplify the jerky motion


as you can see when the motor is turning at very slow speed okay lets try again the motion will be jerking back and forth between the previous position and the nextposition what is supposed to happen is the stepper motor suppose to be able to handle small micro steps very smoothly it supposed to turn smoothly


without much jerky motion from the zipties alright i have connected the .. one of the motor to the diodes board and then through the diodes board to the stepper driver so... ya as you can see


there is no trick here okay, let's start the octoprint let's drive the motors again yes! can you see that? maybe this is not clear enough let met try again as you can see the ziptie no longer swings back and forth between the previous and next position


that it is supposed to be going okay let's try again but the other two motors that are not conencted to the diodes boards are jerking violently as you can see this is smooth this is jerking violently okay


so let me connect the rest of the stepper motors. okay so... i have connected the rest of the stepper motors to the board let's try again. okay as you can see the motion become a lot smoother for all of the stepper motors that are connected to this board


so this is definitely not.. some snake oil this definitely work it might be difficult for you to notice the jerky motion that these 8825 stepper drivers produce during your prints but it is.. definitely going to be affecting your print quality alright, lets take a look at the pictures


i've taken i've printed two models with and without tl-smoother boards installed links for the models at description below all of the following models are printed with the exact same settings (samegcode) i've took a couple pictures of my prints first being the benchy that everyone loves.


this is really a great model to identify issues with your print(er) so this benchy is printed without the tl-smoother boards let's fit this on the screen so as you can see the benchy it is pretty clear that the benchy has some ripples on this area


and this area let me zoom-in 100% there are a lot of inconsistencies on the body and the front of the benchy that is the most obvious artifacts each lines are not completely straight or consistent so lets move on to the other benchy


that i've printed with tl-smoother boardsinstalled okay this one is the is the benchy that i've printed with the tl-smoother boards installed so you can see that there are no ripples on the.. on this area of the same area of the previous print and.. there is no ripple on


in front of the benchy as well okay.. lets zoom-in as you can see the lines are a lot more consistent there are no artifacts no random artifacts on the benchy with the tl-smoother boardsinstalled kay.. okay let's move on to the side-by-side comparision


the differences are pretty clear here one has a lot of artifacts one is almost completely artifacts-free so let's move on to the torture test i've designed to make the issues a lot more observable uh this torture test is


designed to have reasonable steep slops and curvy surfaces in order to highlight issues on 8825 so... the first print is printed without tl-smoother boards without zooming-in


you can already see the ripples and inconsistency with the lines let's zoom-in a bit you can see a lot of random artifcats between the layers and especially when the curve begins


and stops and then the the obvious ripples on the layers across the layers should be alright let's see the other one with tl-smoother boards installed okay this is the one with tl-smoother boards


the differences are quite noticeable right? there are no random ripples there are no random inconsistent lines okay let's zoom-in a bit almost completely straight without any random artifacts let's move on to the side-by-side comparison finally, this is the side-by-side comparison pictures worth a thousand words
