my name is sara seamari, i'm a teacherat vathorst college we introduced 3d printing for the 7th and 8th grade next year, we plan to implement it for grades 9-12 too the 2 ultimaker 3d printers were builtby our own students from the 7th and 8th grade, together with somestudents from elementary school they worked together in groups of 5 each group built a different part of the printer when all the parts are built, the process starts againas you assemble it all together until that point, the students did everything on their own
after checking the calibration, the printer is finished.it took them 4-5 weeks to complete we decided to offer the 3d printing classas an elective course so the kids decide for themselveswhich course to follow so the kids that chose the 3d printing classreally have the motivation i really like it, i saw it among the options and thought;this will definitely be my pick it really appeals to me as i also enjoy designing things i think that's really cool you can see the pride on their faces when they canprint out a part they designed themselves looking at it, turning it around, holding it in their hands
what i like most is that one week you'rebehind your pc designing things i, for example, just designed a cover and next thing you know you hold it in your handsand it can actually be of use kids don't consult books anymore. nowadays, theylook up everything on google or youtube everything they need to know, they'll search foron the internet. that's the future and the more you offer applications that are based onthe future, the easier the children learn explorative learning is what sticks with childrenthe most when you hand someone a machine, it doesn't reallyrelate to you
