my name is jordan duncan i'm 25 years old. i'm a prop maker from toronto, ontario i work with a team called henchmen props and we work with video game companiesmaking props and replicas from their games i originally started henchmen props just by myself it was a way for me to show off my workto the community and i just chose a name to represent myself and i've stuck with it.and now we're a team of about 8 people working on costumes and props and everythingall together
we've recently been working ona couple of cool projects we recently worked with blizzard and overwatchat pax east and we've been making a few more costumes for them one of the coolest props we're working on right now issoldier: 76's gun from the game overwatch it's a giant assault rifle, and we had to break it down into27 pieces to be able to print it all out working on soldier: 76's gun, we start with the gamemodel and clean it up and add some detail and then we'll print it off assemble all the parts, sand them down, file them down and fill seams and then we're basically getting it ready for paintand then painting it
3d printing with the ultimakers has cut down a loton our production time normally, with laser-cutting we have to do layer-by-layerand round-up shapes and sculpt in detail but being able to print out a full piecethat we can just sand down and paint has significantly made our lives easier things have come full circle for us we originally started out just making props and replicasfrom video games now we're getting to work with video game companies on trailers and different videos that will eitherbe in the game or launch the game so it's very exciting to see our workas officially part of a game
and the worlds that these companiesand designers create one of the coolest things about these projects isgetting to take our work to the companies and the people who made the gameor designed the characters and having them see their work come alivejust gives us an amazing feeling or when we create a character and have our modelsportray these characters and really sell them and seeing people's faces light up
best free software for 3d printing, and really recognize the characters that they've hadtheir hands on for months or years designing really see it come to life it's an amazing feeling for them, i know
and we just feed off of thatand it puts smiles on all our faces
