the ywca greater los angeles provides support,resources and bridges the gap between at risk families and providers. we respond to well over one hundred thousand persons a year and growing. it started all about two years ago. i was invited to a luncheon...wheni met faye, first of all she intrigued me. she caught my heart and soul. we both seem to have, as our common denominator, hope. and you know we live on hope at the y because it's hope that we deliver in our childcareprograms. it's hope that we provide to senior services. ywca of greater los angeles has11 locations that we serve our community from.
and all 11 of those sites and theirprint, print jobs and print production needs to the digital learning academy's printcenter. the dla, the digital learning academy is a function that covers two areas, if you will. the first it covers the services of the ywca. so today, it's the central focal print point for all documents that are created for the ywca. that could be marketing materials. that could be letterhead. that could be business cards. it could be forms for the health center. yesterday those documents were being outsourced and printed elsewhere. large quantities, warehouse stored obsolescence. today all of that's print on demand here at the dla. the new print center helps
with the y's mission in that now we'reable to produce more collaterals and communicate our mission to the community more efficiently.the second side to that coin, if you will, is the services that we'll bring to thecommunity. we will utilize the services of the dla as a print center...bring the printing that they're already doing into the dla. the money that they're spending will go back into community programs. it was like a dream come true almost, because i was aware of the in-plant print responsibility that it could deliver to us. i knew not of the school tocareer program. the whole training program. and the idea of bringing youth from the community into our center and teaching them from the ground up what digital printing is. not onlyfrom the standpoint of making copies and prints
but how are they created? how are they authored? and then you couple that with wide-format printing, advanced finishing, 3-d printing,coding. it's amazing. this is a great program. it's free of cost and we're going to betrained and given skills that other people may not be able to receive. kids my age are often let down when they think about the cost of school, and many of us can't afford it.so a program like this is helping us and guiding us. i'm really interested in using 3-d printing and, for example, in anywhere from like the healthcare industry...or even in the automotive industry. they actually have all the technologies, all the programs that we need in the future. and now we can actually respond to the emerging needs of technology and give hope to the business community. and give hope to those youth who

are at risk and don't have the capacity,least to say to the funds, to support moving into the technology world. and you have a dream and your dreams have been obtained, there's nothing else in life you cannotobtain and there's nothing else in life you won't get. i do believe we've got ourselves a winner here!
