hey everybody and welcome to 3d thursday,i'm noe and i'm pedro. today we’re working on a cosplay inspired project, in collaboration with james bruton from xrobots! that right’s, we’re prototyping a unibeam..the infamous repulsion weapon from iron man. this 3d printed prop is going inside james’hulkbuster project. the hulkbuster is a massiveiron man inspired suit james built with 3d printed parts, and various other materials.so checkout james' youtube channel for more details on his hulkbuster project.â hulkbuster! to make the unibeamcircuit we’re using two neopixel rings,
a couple of single neopixel leds, and gemma, which is an easy to use, byte sized micro controller. neopixel leds are individually addressableand can be connected together in a chain, sharing just one data connection, along with power and ground.â be sure to check out our guide on the adafruit learning system to follow along with a circuit diagram. you can find the link in the descriptionbelow. silicone coated wires are great for thesetypes of projects because they offer that extra flex, some 26 or 30 gauge works wellhere. the artwork for 3d printed parts were designed in illustrator and imported into 123d as an svg. that way we could make custom shapeseasier.
the parts are designed to print support freeand just happens to take advantage of the big printing area on our lulzbot taz 4 ! with the components wired up, it's easy tofit the circuit inside the printed parts. everything just snap fits together.â the multi-layer design really adds depth tothe details and incorporates design elements from your favorite scifi movies.
3d printed iron man armor, and now we have a giant, 3d printed unibeam! just don't look directly into it, it's very bright! so if you want to see the final unibeam inaction, watch james brutons youtube channel. thanks so much for watching and if you digg this project, please let us know by clicking that like button.â
